Head Injury
After a knock to the head, the person might feel pain or have a headache, possibly with a noticeable lump. They might also appear paler than usual.
WHAT TO DO:
1. Advise them to rest and place a cold item, like an ice pack, against the injured spot.
2. Keeping a cold item on the injury for about 20 minutes can ease the swelling and pain.
A head knock can also jostle the brain inside the skull, potentially causing a more severe injury that can make them feel unwell or sleepy. If the injury occurred during sports, they shouldn’t resume playing until checked by a doctor
3. If they become sleepy, vomit, or appear confused, dial 999 right away.
These symptoms might indicate a more grave head injury. If you're unable to phone 999, ask someone else to.
