1. Place the burn under cool running water for a minimum of 10-15 minutes.

This helps in easing the pain, swelling and minimising any future scars. The quicker and longer you cool the burn, the better the outcome.

2. Do not apply any lotions, creams or bandages. Leave the burn open and clean until medical assistance is available.

This keeps the area clean and protects it from infections.

3. Dial 999 if needed.

If you're unable to call, ask someone else to assist. Some burns require immediate medical attention. If you aren't sure what to do, talk to a doctor.
